We’re hiring a Robot Programmer to develop, optimize, and support automated manufacturing systems using industrial robots. In this role, you’ll create and troubleshoot robot programs, integrate peripheral equipment, and support production teams to improve cycle time, throughput, quality, and uptime. You’ll work hands-on with robotic cells, safety systems, and industrial controls in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
-
Create, modify, and optimize robot programs for industrial automation (including motion paths, tool frames, user frames, and logic).
-
Perform robot commissioning, cell startup, and debugging for new and existing automation lines.
-
Integrate and validate end-of-arm tooling (EOAT), vision systems, conveyors, weld equipment, and other peripherals.
-
Support PLC integration and interface signals such as digital I/O, safety I/O, and fieldbus communications (e.g., EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, DeviceNet).
-
Improve performance through cycle time optimization, payload checks, path smoothing, and interference avoidance.
-
Troubleshoot production issues using root-cause methods and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime (OEE improvement).
-
Maintain technical documentation including program backups, change logs, and standard work instructions.
-
Verify compliance with robot safety standards and plant requirements, including risk assessments, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and safe teach practices.
-
Collaborate with manufacturing engineering, maintenance, controls engineering, and vendors to deliver reliable automation solutions.
Required Qualifications
-
Proven experience as an industrial robot programmer in a manufacturing environment (automotive, welding, assembly, material handling, or similar).
-
Hands-on expertise with Comau robot programming (teach pendant programming, offline/online programming, program structure, motion instructions).
-
Solid understanding of robot calibration, TCP setup, frame setup, and path accuracy.
-
Ability to troubleshoot using electrical schematics, I/O lists, and controls documentation.
-
Strong knowledge of industrial automation, sensors, actuators, and production equipment troubleshooting.
-
Comfort working on the floor: cell access, teaching, dry runs, and supporting production shifts as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience with offline programming (OLP) and simulation tools.
-
Exposure to weld robotics (spot weld / arc weld), seam tracking, or process parameter validation.
-
Experience with HMI/SCADA, PLC troubleshooting, and structured problem-solving (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone, FMEA).
-
Familiarity with robot safety circuits, safety PLCs, light curtains, scanners, and interlocks.
What Success Looks Like
-
Stable and maintainable robot code with strong documentation and backups.
-
Reduced downtime via fast, accurate troubleshooting and robust fixes.
-
Measurable improvements in cycle time, quality, and OEE through optimization and process control.
